A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and caesarean deliveries. It will assess how your pelvic floor, abdominal and postural muscles are recovering after birth. It is recommended to have a Mummy MOT six weeks after giving birth, however it is never too late and appointments can be years post-birth. Mums need to squat, lift, and bend all day so it is important your body is supported to get back to doing all these activities, as well as any hobbies that you either haven’t returned to yet, or are struggling with. We achieve this by providing you with exercises and a bespoke treatment plan to assist and guide you with your onward recovery.
A Mummy MOT appointment consists of:
- 1 hour assessment with our Pelvic Health Physiotherapist
- Full postural screen
- Breathing techniques
- Screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
- Pelvic floor check via internal vaginal assessment
- Abdominal muscle exam to check for any tummy gap
Following your Mummy MOT you will be provided with:
- A full written report on the findings of your assessment
- A bespoke rehabilitation programme with your goals and lifestyle factors to help you get back to the activities you love.
- Recommendations for onward treatment
- Education and advice on safe baby-care activities such as lifting your baby or pushing a buggy
